Stereotypical
The order in which you are born determines what kind of personality you have. So NOT true. But the information from the birth order research is surprisingly accurate. The birth order research doesn't describe me all the way, but it listed some traits I know I have as the only child. (Actually, I'm only the only child for the purposes of this assignment because the age difference between me and each of my brothers was too much.)
According to the birth order research, the only child gets along well with those older or younger, but not in between. I think that this is very sad, but it applies to me. For example, whenever I go to a family party, I am either sitting with my parents or hanging out with younger cousins. I also have friends who are older than me. I mean, I have friends who are sophomores, too, but...I can't explain why, but I just get along better with older people.
The birth order research also states that the only child may procrastinate to relieve the burden of perfectionism. Well, all my life, I've aimed for good grades. Not all A's, but A's, B's, and the occasional C. But because of my 4.0 GPA from my freshman year, I expect to keep that perfect GPA all through high school. This is going to be next to impossible to do because I am such a procrastinator. I mean, I sometimes don't get started on a major project until the week before it's due, so it's a miracle I get good or decent grades.
Conservatism is a trait the birth order research says I, as someone without siblings, have. The best example of the conservative aspect of my personality would be from the swimming unit of P.E. I really hate showing "a lot of skin " but I got stuck with a one-piece swimsuit. So what I would do was wear my P.E. uniform over said swimsuit until I had to rinse of before entering the pool. And afterwards I wrapped the towel around myself for cover, even though I didn't have an extra one so I can dry off after my "shower". It didn't matter that I had more things to air dry; it was all good as long as I wasn't uncomfortable. And as for the shower, I didn't mind because I knew that everyone was too focused on their shower.
Although birth order doesn't determine your personality, it can affect some aspects of it. The birth order research managed to describe me okay. As an "only child", I get along well with people who aren't my age. I procrastinate to relieve the burden of perfectionism and I am conservative. I do a pretty decent job of being a stereotype of the only child.
