#2. 4 Themes: 1. The first parents are often the gods of the sky and the earth.
2. Humans are usually fashioned from parts of the earth.
3. The gods destroy at least one part of the earth with a flood.
4.Heroes are children of gods and they posses extraordinary powers.
#3. The universe was a chaotic, formless place until a god or pair of gods separated it.
#4. The heroic myths and epics of a society teach its members the appropriate attitude, behavior, and values of that culture.
#5. In spite of their extraordinary abilities, heroes are not perfect. Their imperfections allow ordinary people to identify themselves with them and to like them, for everyone has similar psychological needs and conflicts.
#6. The foundation of the matriarchal society was the agricultural year. Agriculture's importance fostered a cyclical view of life.
#7. Sigmund Freud viewed myths as the expression of the individual's unconscious wishes, fears and drives.
#8. Myths demonstrate that people posses the intellectual capacity to understand the world in which they live.
